The Most Important Days of Observance and Holidays in 2020 for Small Businesses Owners

2020 national holidays and days of observance

Nowadays, there are National Holidays and Days of Observance for basically everything. Besides the common ones like Labor Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Black Friday, there are many other fun dates for us to celebrate!

Most of them are extremely commercial, which is good for your small business since you can use those days to create a sale, a special discount, or even a fun campaign to engage with your customers and your audience on social media.

With this list, there’s no way you’re going to feel like you have nothing to post on social media ever again!

How to Use the List of National Holidays and Days of Observance

The best way to use this list is to use it to draft a content calendar. If you don’t have a content calendar or a social media plan, we highly recommend you create your social media plan by clicking here and then create your content calendar by clicking here.

Creating a social media plan and an editorial calendar will help you envision your marketing goals and get more clarity on your overall strategy. It also helps you plan out your content in advance so you know exactly what you’re going to post.

Once you have a general idea of what you’re going to post about and when, you can start to dig in a little deeper to map out specific promotions and campaigns. If you’re planning your social media strategy on the fly, your content won’t feel cohesive or well thought out. This randomness will also make it more difficult to engage with people and convert them into buyers.

So, use the dates below to create the bones of your content calendar. If it’s easier, you might want to print it out and highlight the days that make sense for you to post about on behalf of your business.

Examples

Let’s say you own a Mexican restaurant. You obviously want to celebrate Margarita’s Day, Dia de Los Muertos, Nachos Day, and other days that are highly relevant to what you do. For example, Dia de Los Muertos is a special occasion, so you can definitely plan in advance and create an event in your restaurant or come up with a special delivery offer.

Margaritas Day is more of a “fun” commercial holiday, but you can still go all out! You could do a “buy one get one” deal on margaritas, unveil a special new flavor, or offer free chips and guac with every margarita order. When you plan in advance, you can get more creative, which will generate a lot more buzz than if you come up with something last minute.

You can take some time to get good photos of the dishes, edit them, create a nice offer, and write up some strong copy to entice your audience. You can post about it a few days before the actual day to generate excitement and give people more opportunity to plan.

This is just an example. It really doesn’t matter what industry you’re in. As long as you’re creative, you can use this list to attract more attention to your business.
